TruthTrek

Centar za promociju civilnog društva (CPCD) is implementing TruthTrek, a project aimed at empowering citizen journalism, youth, and women in Laktaši, Prijedor, Kupres, and Livno with funding from the United States Department of State in the amount of $23,572.00 USD.

The project aims to empower citizen journalists, particularly young people and women from Laktaši, Prijedor, Kupres, and Livno, in promoting citizen journalism within their local communities. A key component of this project is collaboration among individuals, media, organizations, and institutions to empower the dissemination of local stories from these communities.

Why is TruthTrek important?

TruthTrek focuses on supporting citizen journalists in Laktaši, Prijedor, Kupres, and Livno. These communities are often marginalized in development and foreign aid processes, especially concerning media development. By increasing media literacy and creating content that addresses local issues, the project will directly contribute to community empowerment and improve quality of life. Additionally, TruthTrek will promote freedom of speech through the education and engagement of citizen journalists, youth, and women, supporting them in combating misinformation and extremist rhetoric. It is noticeable that there is a lack of independent media platforms in Laktaši, Prijedor, Kupres, and Livno, which could enable citizens to express their views and opinions. Opportunities for creating and distributing media content crucial to local communities are present!

What are the planned activities and outcomes?

Through capacity assessments, training, workshops, and promotional activities, at least 60 young people, women, and minority members will enhance their knowledge of fact-based citizen journalism, identifying misinformation, media literacy, and combating extremist rhetoric in the public sphere. At least 100 media contents (videos, articles, reels, blogs) will be created and published on the portal www.objavi.ba, covering key local topics in each community. Additionally, the project implementation will increase awareness of the importance of freedom of speech, media literacy, and combating misinformation.

Where will the project be implemented and how long will it last?

The project will be implemented in Laktaši, Prijedor, Kupres, and Livno over a 12-month period.
